Speaking about Super Car driving experience, who would not want to drive a Lamborghini?
For me, it was a long-cherished dream to drive supercars and it happened quite unexpectedly.
Sports Car world is a well-known company in Sydney which presents you with the experience of driving Sportscars.
I had the wonderful opportunity to experience driving 5 different supercars with them.
How to purchase the tickets for Super Car Driving experience
Tickets are purchased either directly from the Sports Car World website or sites like Red balloon or Adrenaline. Other websites may have discount coupons, however, note that the confirmation is not immediate. Also, there are only a fixed number of spots available every day and the event will not be on if they do not have sufficient bookings ( Makes sense considering someone will have to drive each of these cars to make sure you get 5 cars to drive!)
Choosing the Route
Cost is slightly different for different routes & you choose the route while you book. Supercar driving routes are either up north or down south from Sydney. Because we were doing it on a weekend, I preferred to avoid the traffic. Also, since the Seacliff bridge is a beautiful route, we picked up the southern route which is from Ryde to Wollongong & back. The track is as below:
- Top Ryde to Royal National Park
- Royal National Park to Bald Hill Headland Reserve
- Bald Hill Headland Reserve to Thomas Dalton park
- Thomas Dalton Park to Royal National Park
- Royal National Park to Top Ryde
Supercar Driving Experience
The day started with arriving at Sportscar World’s showroom at Top Ryde Mall around 8:30 AM. After 30 minutes of checking in and briefing session, we were given the cards which had the order of our cars for the day.
The arrangement is simple. You start driving one car for about 45 minutes and in the next stop, you exchange the car with another driver from the same group. There is no confusion as to the order in which you drive the cars as the cheat sheet is already provided. As you are provided with walkie-talkies in each car, you are still in touch with the lead car which is run by the organisers.
Do you get to choose the fleet of cars? – No. The cars are decided by the company based on multiple factors. All you know is the cars for the day will be 5 from their fleet which is listed on the ticket.
Alfa Romeo Driving Experience in Sydney
Alfa Romeo 4C was the first car which we were going to drive. This two-seat, mid-engined sports car with no power steering was a great one to start with. Cramped interiors & brutal ride made it to my best one on the day!
Lamborghini Driving Experience in Sydney
One thing the roads keep constantly reminding you is that whatever you are driving, you are still on a busy road! This kind of minimises the overall effect, but the routes are carefully chosen that you may find yourself in some good long stretch for experimenting the power of your car!
The best thing which happened was that it became my chance to drive ‘Lambo’ at the Royal National Park which ended up being one of the best stretches on the day. It was a brief stopover at the Royal National Park where we all exchanged our cars.
It was a Lamborghini Gallardo & it was a dream.
When we reached the beautiful Bald Hills, it was the time to exchange our cars again. This time, we got a longer break. The views from the Bald hill are spectacular, but on that day you would rather admire your car!
Porsche Driving Experience in Sydney
You have this dream of driving a convertible down the hills on a beautiful sunny day. That was Porsche for me.
I must say the Porsche 997 stood out for me for the reason it being a great convertible!
GT Driving Experience in Sydney
There comes the Nissan GTR35.
One of the better ones of the day. You feel the luxury the moment you get in. And the power, to die for.
Audi R8 Driving Experience in Sydney
Maybe one thing I did not like much was that the stopovers to exchange the car were very brief, not really providing enough time to admire the car and its features ( which I think is a big part of the experience)
Cost for Sportscar driving experience
Just like any other car rentals, a deposit is held on your credit card until the safe return of the cars
The experience costs $1199 for a driver and a non-driving passenger including a lunch at a cafe in Ryde. If the passenger also wants to drive then additional insurance needs to be paid, but there is no additional cost for the drive itself as you will be then sharing the turns.
An amount is charged for Windscreen cover damage insurance to lower the liabilities to AUD $5000 from AUD $15000 at a cost of AUD $25 dollar. That sounds a very good bargain.
Track Driving Experience
For those who are interested in track driving, there are options available on the website.
How to Gift a Supercar Driving experience
More of an unconventional gift, Super Car driving experience is a great option for graduation, retirement, engagement or more or less anything even if there is no occasion as such.
You can purchase a Voucher which can be then redeemed by the intended driver.
If you are unsure, purchase the voucher through RedBalloon as they allow you to exchange any voucher for equal value.
